Priority Alarm System (PAS)

The Bach-Simpson™ Priority Alarm System (PAS) provides a means of monitoring abnormal conditions in the cars of a passenger train that could affect human and/or equipment safety. The PAS signals train crew members when situations arise that require a high-priority response such as a fire in a car, an open door while the train is moving, dragging brake equipment or, most importantly, a call for help by a passenger in need of emergency assistance. The Priority Alarm System identifies the nature and location of an alarm in the train allowing the engineer to direct the conductor or another crewmember to investigate the trouble and take appropriate action.

QBA15-CA Air Dryer System

The SludgeBraker QBA15-CA is the rail version of Graham-White's "Sever-Duty" Truck and Bus Air Dryer. Sludgebraker is equipped to fulfill the critical demands of inner city, stop and go, high air usage, “Severe-Duty” vehicles. The QBA15 combines multiple high efficiency filtration components with twin tower drying technology in one easy-to-install, compact package.

The QBA15-CA model is used in the rail market as both a point of use solution on locomotives for protection of RCL valve sets and on MOW equipment applications.

QBA15-CA is designed for flow rates between 10 and 20 scfm at a maximum operating pressure of 150 psi.

QBA15-CA Model does not include the PF15 Prefilter / Scrubber Assembly.

QEG 1000

The QEG 1000 AUTOSTART system provides reduced fuel consumption and exhaust emissions by monitoring engine operating parameters and automatically shutting down and restarting the engine during locomotive idle periods. This results in significant fuel savings while always maintaining the locomotive in a state of readiness.
 
The QEG 1000 AUTOSTART system includes the following standard features and benefits:

  • Reduced engine fuel consumption, resulting in significant fuel savings and reduced exhaust emissions.
  • Integrated recording function, which records fuel report statistics, locomotive statistics, events, and alarm logs.
  • System indicator lights (Red and Green LEDs), which indicate the status of the AUTOSTART system.
  • AUTOSTART Siren Panels (2), which sound to warn locomotive personnel that a locomotive auto-shutdown or auto-restart will occur.
  • Governor Assist Pump, which works in conjunction with the engine governor during auto-restarts to provide sufficient fuel necessary to start the locomotive.
  • Engine Protection Device (EPD) Override, which overrides the engine protection device (EPD) during auto-restarts thereby preventing an unnecessary (or false) engine shutdown as a result of a false low water pressure condition.
  • Automatic Ground Relay Reset function that resets the Ground Relay following each locomotive auto-restart.
  • Load Shedding function that, following a locomotive auto-shutdown, automatically turns off the locomotive’s headlights after the preset time-out period elapses. By shutting down the lighting system, Load Shedding eliminates repeated and unnecessary locomotive auto-restarts.

Together with optional ancillary equipment, the QEG 1000 AUTOSTART System can also provide the following features and benefits:

  • Fan Control function that monitors water temperature and activates the cooling fans at specified temperatures, while cycling through the fans to share fan operation.
  • Low/High Idle function that monitors water and ambient temperatures to reduce idling costs in above freezing temperatures, and maintain engine operating temperature during colder periods.
  • Locomotive kilowatt-hour logs/records: which can be used to compare locomotive maintenance costs against locomotive working time.
  • Locomotive speed and distance recording to provide travel statistics.

QTRAC 1000 Traction Control

The QTRAC 1000 Traction Control module is an economic way to significantly boost track adhesion and locomotive performance. The QTRAC 1000 controls wheel slip/creep in power and dynamic brake operation by reducing excitation to the main generator when wheel slip is detected in one of the axles.
 
The real time detection and response to wheel slip problems result in up to a 34% improvement in track adhesion under poor rail conditions. QTRAC 1000 also controls rail sanding, and provides increased performance due to the tractive effort gained from Wheel Creep Control feature.
 

  • Monitors diagnostics of all QTRAC 1000 inputs and outputs, including:
  • Records and stores Alarms (450 alarms):
    • Select Contactor and Relay positions
    • Traction motor currents (6 on SD units; 4 on F9 and GP units)

Bach-Simpson's™ Download Port (RDP) combines a Remote Download Port with the ease of USB data extraction. No longer are you restricted in Event Recorder location, the RDP can be positioned for the operator's convenience. The Remote Download Port replicates the Portable Test Equipment interface to provide all diagnostic, setup and download functions. The RDP also removes the requirement for a laptop when extracting Event Recorder data. Simply insert a USB Memory Stick into the USB port and the data is automatically downloaded. The data files can be copied and archived using standard PC utilities.
